News and Events:
STC Annual 'Wine & Cheese' on February 8th:
It's time again for us to break out the cheese wheel and corkscrew. Comecatch up with old friends over a glass of wine and let yourself be informed and entertained by Barry Clegg. Barry will talk about a project he ran in a public utility’s IT department, to promote the importance of communication and to boost non-writers’ writing skills. He will cover the challenges of getting project approval, getting suitable content, and getting people to listen. A Professional Engineer with a BA from Cambridge and an MSc in Solid Mechanics from Aston University (don’t ask!), Barry spent 30 years in IT development and management. He now works as a freelance communicator. Barry has written articles (serious and less than serious) for in-house & external publication - in user manuals, technical documentation, reports, newsletters, websites, conference papers, speeches, skits, poetry, & a coffee-table book When: Where:
The Toronto STC Chapter is proud to announce that our maven of technical communication, Ann Rockley, has been named a Fellow of the Society for Technical Communication. She is one of only seven to be conferred the title in 2005. Ann was instrumental in reviving the dormant Toronto chapter in the early 1980's. Among other things, she served as chapter president, produced the newsletter, and was general manager for our very sucessful three-day, multi-stream conference, "Technicom '89." The rank of fellow is conferred only upon associate fellows who have attained such eminence in the field of technical communication that the board, by a two-thirds vote of all members, deems them worthy of being singled out as one of the select few who have distinguished the Society and the profession. Important Reminder to Renewing STC Members Don’t forget, the STC has new membership categories for 2005 - when you get your renewal notice, be sure to select the Classic, E-Membership, or Student option, and select the Toronto Chapter as your chapter affiliation. This will ensure that you continue to have access to services that are only available to STC Toronto members.
STC Southwestern Ontario is pleased to announce our annual workshop, February 17-18, 2005, in Cambridge, Ontario. Our Education Manager has expanded our annual the event to include four half-day speakers. All of the sessions are hands-on and practical, aimed at helping communicators gain valuable skills that they can apply in their daily work. Click here to see a PDF with more details.
