Gilda Spitz is the founder and president of G.S. Consulting. Gilda has been a technical writer since 1991, and has worked on documentation in a variety of fields, including corporate management, telecommunication, and insurance software.

In addition to her University of Toronto degree, with a double major in English and French, Gilda continuously upgrades her writing and editing skills through seminars and hands-on training. Gilda’s background in French has proven extremely valuable over the years, because she understands the challenges of translating English documents to foreign languages, and she knows how to minimize cost and maximize efficiency.

As a former manager of a Documentation department for a software development company, Gilda Spitz has performed a wide range of technical communication tasks in the private sector. She understands the entire documentation process, from outline, through drafts and revisions, editing and indexing, right up to printing to paper, pdf file, or online help. Gilda has now adapted that valuable experience to the field of contracting.

Gilda’s accomplishments as an award-winning technical writer in the private sector include writing reference guides, user guides, online help, “back-of-the-book” indexes, release notes, and more. She was personally responsible for growing the documentation suite of a software company to a total of 13 manuals, each designed specifically for its target audience. She also established Style Guides, served as a de facto Corporate Editor, mentored young technical writers, oversaw the translation process to three foreign languages, served as a judge in technical writing competitions, and performed administrative duties on a timely basis.

Gilda Spitz is a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). She often serves as a judge in local competitions, in order to foster new talent and to encourage excellence in technical writing. Gilda also serves on the Advisory Board for the Technical Communication program at Seneca College.
