Laurie Pearce

Laurie Pearce, Co-Editor, STC Toronto Newsletter, Communication Times

Here is a snapshot of Laurie at the 2002 The Word On The Street book festival, in the STC booth.

In 2002, Laurie wants to…

  • Improve the newsletter’s appearance in printed form.
  • Increase the number of contributors to the newsletter.
  • Improve the quality of the content.
  • Get the darned thing online.

The present

Laurie runs her own business, Words That Work, to produce technical and business documents and translate them into several languages. Her Web site includes good advice for new technical writers.

Background

Laurie has 15 years of experience as a technical writer and manager and 5 years experience as a writing instructor. For the past seven years Laurie Pearce has helped develop Words That Work, a company that offers technical writing services to the software industry.

Laurie holds a Masters degree in Professional Writing from the University of Waterloo. She is the former Director of Writing at the University of Waterloo's Centre for Professional Writing. Laurie has been an active member of the STC for a number of years.

Although she has led many successful workshops and courses, and written dozens of documents, her finest accomplishments remain her two wonderful and beautiful children.

Before she was a technical writer…

"I used to be involved in professional theatre-in-education, working in a variety of capacities for theatre companies that toured the province performing in elementary school gyms and auditoriums. One of my favourite jobs was to write the educational material to help guide classroom teachers in preparing the kids for the show (they were called on to participate) and activities that could be done after the show."
