What is an Associate Fellow?

Associate Fellowship

This rank is conferred only on senior members who have attained distinction in technical communication. A candidate must have been active in technical communication for 15 years or more and a member of the STC for 10 years or more. To be considered for this rank, a member must have done one of these:

  • made significant contributions to the field of technical communication;
  • done original work that contributed to the advancement of technical communication; or
  • made significant contributions to the Society.

Procedure

Each fall, chapters can recommend candidates to the Associate Fellows Nominating Committee. The committee members are all fellows and associate fellows.

The Nominating Committee makes its recommendations from among the candidates to the STC's Board of Directors. Not everyone is approved.

The Society decides whether to approve the recommendations of the committee. You can find more details here: http://www.stc.org/honorsProcess.asp.
